Whether we admit it or not, we all are prone to biases at some point or another. Some biases are unconscious while some are the opposite. When it comes to staffing and recruiting of candidates, it is our belief that biases tend to more on the conscious side due in part to people who we perceive as biologically hardwired or similar to us. There is a level of comfort, familiarity, even trust and this activity can and continues to have negative social, economical and phycological impacts on individuals, families and communities.
It might be a bit harsh to label someone as being biased, but if they are in a position that can affect change, positive change and they chose to go against the grain and rely on their own intuition, then certainly, the possible of being labelled as biased becomes more genuine.. There are evidence in and around organizations, industries, government, where workforces are not reflective of the environments, communities and cities in which they operate.
The times are changing, with covid, there will be loses but like any freshly planted seed, there will be growth and expansion and a need for space and inputs…The workforces of tomorrow will need workers of every shape, creed and color.. Why wait until then, why be reactive in this ever changing world.. Be the change that you want to see. Take accountability of your HR Practices and lets hold people accountable for their biases. We are all the better of for it..
